Normal Studio, aka Jean-François Dingjian and Eloi Chafaï, is a creative agency that was founded in 2006 and that champions streamlined designs featuring objects in simple, everyday shapes. Normal Studio explores all the fields of design, working on product design with industry, experimental micro series, staging and interior design.
We created a panel by making fine imprints in the concrete. After many experiments, we settled on a folding technique in order to render the delicateness of a sheet of paper when folded, and we developed a process that reveals the full subtlety of the folds and layers.
The geometric pattern formed by the folds covers the entire surface of the panel, causing the viewer’s eye to lose itself in the clever composition of this concrete sheet.
Over a large area, the pattern generates a vibration which plays with architectural ambient lighting. When light skims over the panel the patterns appear, when in direct light they fade away.
