Neri and Hu
Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, founding partners of Neri&Hu and Design Republic Lyndon
Founded in 2004 by partners Lyndon Neri and Research Office, Neri&Hu Design and Research Office is an interdisciplinary architectural design firm based in Shanghai. The company’s booming global portfolio includes orders ranging from planning and cutting-edge architecture to interior design, installation, furniture, products, brand image and graphic pieces.
Whether through objects of intimate daily use or vessels of inhabitation, they seek an approach to design that draws from multiple disciplines to provide experiences that enrich contemporary life while still keeping a critical linkage to a collective history.
We wanted to showcase the beauty of concrete by designing panels with wavy surfaces that create variations in light and shadow.
We were able to extrude a visual and tactile depth to the concrete while retaining the lightweight application made possible by Panbeton®’s technology.
Working on projects in many countries around the world, Neri&Hu is composed of multi-cultural staff who speak over 30 different languages. The diversity of the team reinforces a core vision for the practice: to respond to a global worldview incorporating overlapping design disciplines for a new paradigm in architecture.
Alongside their design practice, Lyndon and Rossana have been deeply committed to architectural education and have lectured across the globe in various universities and professional forums. Together, they were appointed as the John C. Portman Design Critic in Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 2019, and received the distinguished Norman R. Foster Visiting Professor Chair at Yale School of Architecture in 2018. They have previously taught at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Architecture. They co-authored and edited Persistence of Vision: Shanghai Architects in Dialogue, published by MCCM Creations in 2007.
