LALABE, a triple award-winning yacht at the Design & Innovation Awards
Triple winner of the BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards 2026, the LALABE yacht embodies a contemporary vision of luxury at sea. Measuring 35 meters in length, this yacht—built by Van der Valk Shipyard and designed by Guido de Groot Design—stands out for the fluidity of its spaces, the precision of its naval architecture, and the attention given to materials.
The project was recognized in three major categories:
• Best Interior Design – Motor Yachts (24 m to 39.9 m)
• Outstanding Exterior Design – Motor Yachts (24 m to 39.9 m)
• Best Naval Architecture – Semi-Displacement or Fast Displacement Motor Yachts
At the heart of this interior signature: Oberflex sawn oak, used as a true architectural material.

Wood as an architectural material on board
In the world of yachting, interior architecture must balance aesthetic excellence with demanding technical constraints: humidity, temperature variations, and constant vibrations.
Oberflex sawn oak reveals the full richness of natural wood. Its pronounced grain, authentic texture, and depth of tone offer a sensory reading of the material.
Used in wall cladding and bespoke furniture, the wood structures volumes and dresses surfaces. It creates a warm, contemporary atmosphere, moving away from traditional marine codes often dominated by ultra-gloss finishes.
Wood thus becomes a true architectural element: it guides circulation, envelops sleeping areas, and interacts with the abundant natural light on board.

High-performance wood panels for marine interior fit-outs
Oberflex wood panels combine aesthetics and technical performance thanks to:
• excellent dimensional stability
• high-quality finishes
• visual consistency across large surfaces
• controlled weight of the fittings
All key requirements for yacht interior architecture.
When wood defines the onboard experience
While LALABE was acclaimed for its exterior design and naval architecture, its interior design fully contributes to the onboard experience.
Through its texture and presence, Oberflex sawn oak helps shape a strong identity: a refined, tactile, and contemporary form of luxury.
In this exceptional project, wood does more than dress the space—
it defines its atmosphere.
